JJ Jester is a Bay Hanovarian x Section D standing at 16.3hh.
We started with Natural Horsemanship when we got JJ Jester, we thought that it may help us with JJ Jester as he was PETRIFIED of everything and was to the point of being dangerous and we were right.
In 2004 we finally found a farrier that would TRY and do JJ's feet without him having to be sedated, her name is Helen Fearon. His feet was very very long and wide when we first bought him, it appeared that they hadn't been done for years, and with JJ's frighteness, jumpyness, it was to a point of being dangerous, it had taken us 6 months were we could pick up his feet, he was that stubben/frightened and no other farrier would touch him without him being sedated. With work on our part and Helens help we have now got him were he will stand there to have his feet done, usually quiet as anything. It has been a long process but one that has definatley been worth it.
Again with the way he was, we had to get him sedated to have his teeth done, again it seemed like they had Never been done, Our Dentist is Craig Griffiths, who is brilliant, but the next time he was due, I forgot to arrange for the vet to sedate him again but Craig said he would try him, and Craig said we had done a brilliant job with him as he was able to do his teeth without him being sedated and that JJ had completely changed for the better since the first time he had saw him.
We have managed to take a very frightened and hot headed BIG 8year old horse and get him calm, trustworthy and playful and now he is jumping, hacking, playing and schooling with confidence and he has jumped 1m30 from a trot, and is going very well. At the yard where we were at that time everyone was astonished with what we had accomplished with JJ they said "he was a raving lunatic and very dangerous when we first bought him" and that we had done wonders with him in just a few weeks.
He is now going to be starting his showjumping career.
He now plays in the field with the youngsters, and it is a very quite yard so he has been able to truly relax, it is amazing how a simple thing like changing yards and a bit of time and patience can change a horse like JJ Jester, But it can be done.
