Coriano Top-Ranked Sire in Sleswig-Holstein
Grand Sire:- Coriano, Completed his stallion performance test with a rating of class 1, having achieved many scores of ten for character, performance ability and predisposition for jumping. He won classes at all levels in Germany and as a 6 year old was champion of the Federal German Riding horse championships. He went to international success under Bo Kristoffersen and won the CSIO in Sweden in 1997. CORIANO is famous for producing easily trainable horses and his stock fetch top prices at most auctions: one daughter fetched 200,000 Euros in 2001 and one of his sons fetched 180,000 Euros in 2002. Although owned by the Holsteiner Verband, CORIANO is now leased to studbook Zangersheide and is their most important and accomplished sire. According to a more recent study CORIANO is the #1-ranked sire in the German state of Sleswig-Holstein. http://www.equiworld.net/uk/ezine/0202/morningside01.htm
According to a new study, CORIANO (Corrado I x Lord)is the #1-ranked sire in the German state of Sleswig-Holstein. jumping sensation
This result is based on an analysis by the state's agriculture department of thousands of offspring sired by 95 stallions servicing mares in Sleswig-Holstein (source: www.lk-sh.de).
Coriano and the dressage stallion Carpaccio (Caretino x Lantaan) both received overall breeding value (bv) scores of 145, placing them at the pinnacle and above well-known but older sires such as Acord II (bv 125), Caretino (bv 130), Contender (bv 137), and Quidam de Revel (bv 111). A breeding value score of 145, for example, means that the stallion's breeding value is 45% above the value of the average sire in the analysis.
The study analyzed data from three sources: foal inspections, mare tests, and breeding mare evaluations. Data from over 22,000 inspections, tests, and evaluations were used in the analysis.
Coriano's 471 foals received very good scores for the two characteristics analyzed: 121 for type/conformation and 117 for movement. Coriano received a breeding value score of 120 for his foals with an accuracy of 99.3%.
Coriano, Takes 6th Place in German Showjumping Index
CORIANO (Corrado I x Lord), has ascended to the top tier of German sires according to a study released at the end of December by the German Federation.
The study's purpose was to determine the breeding values of German-based sires. The study used information on 350,000 horses and included results from mare tests, stallion tests, and, above all, showjumping competition results.
Germany's top-10 sires, as reported in "FN-Aktuell" (http://www.fn-aktuell.de), are:
With a breeding value of 158, Coriano is 58% superior in his breeding value to the average sire included in this largest and most sophisticated analysis of German horses ever undertaken.
Coriano completed his stallion performance test in March in l993 with a rating of class "1", having achieved scores of 10 for character, performance ability and predisposition for jumping. Coriano won classes at all levels in Germany and as a 6 year old was winner of the Federal German Riding Horse Championships. He went on to international success under Bo Kristoffersen, under whom he won the CSIO in Sweden in l997. After a successful breeding and sport career, Coriano moved to the elite breeding station for showjumpers Gestuet Zangersheide/Belgium. There, he came under his new rider Judy-Ann Melchior/Belgium. After breeding at Zagerscheide, Coriano returned to the Holsteiner Verband. To date Coriano has produced 14 stallion sons with one achieving the Reserve Champion at the Körung in 2002. Due to the success of his offspring he is ranked number one in his age group by the German FN.
Great Grand Sire: CORRADO I
CORRADO I Grand Sire: was competed very successfully internationally by Bo Kristoffersen and the great Franke Sloothaak. He won the biggest show in the world, Aachen, setting the stage for his showjumping career, in which he won may Grand Pix's, World Cups and Nations Cups. His wins all over Europe set him apart from all the other jumper sires, in 1994 he won the German National Championships and in 1996 he won the World Cup. CORRADO I has sired 60 approved stallions, 111 approved daughters, many of his offspring are competing at International Grand Prix level.
Corrado I has not disappointed. On the contrary, he has proven himself again and again by achieving the highest of honours throughout his career. As a breeding stallion, Corrado I has had impeccable results. He now has no less than 111 approved daughters and 60 approved sons, including Coriano, and the KWPN approved stallion, Indorado.
Corrado I is from the absolute proven cross of Cor de la Bryere and Capitol. Cor de la Bryere, a great name in Holsteiner breeding and considered one of the most important foundation sires of the 20th century, is respected for producing offspring with unquestionable rideability while the Capitol line is known for sheer level-headedness.
Corrado I began by winning his stallion performance test with the highest jumping index of his fellow contenders with a score of 137 points, twice receiving scores of 10.0 for his loose jumping and jumping ability/training and scores of 8.0 for rideability and gallop.
First campaigned at the German Show Jumping Championship in 1991, he eventually became the epitome of jumping sires and a permanent fixture of international show jumping under Franke Sloothak. His win at Aachen, considered the toughest competition in the world, set the stage and in 1994 Corrado I won the German National Championships. In 1996 he became World Cup champion in Aarhus, Denmark, and Grand Prix champion at Neumunster and Kiel.
Regarded as devoid of Ladykiller xx blood, he has been invaluable for upgrading the partly impoverished blood basis of the Holsteiner mares. By 2001 13 of his offspring had made it to international show jumping level including Cosima II (Markus Fuchs), Copaco Cher (Piet Raymakers) and Elan Coriana (Aaron Vale).
The famous stallion Corrado I (Cor de Bryere (AngN) - Soleil x Capitol I) presented a good quality group of sons, from which Carry Wind (dam's sire Locato x Rocco, lineage 162) and Casiano (dam's sire Lord x Farnese) were approved for breeding. Corrado I was also represented by two descendants of his son Coriano (dam's sire Lord x Ramiro, lineage 318d2). - Jac Remijnse, Breeding News for Sport Horses, No. 61 - January 2002.
Corrado I (Holsteiner) was a shooting star as a showjumper and as a sire as well. Referred to as an "Idol In Holstein", Corrado I achieved the best jumping index of his test lot (more than 137 points) at his stallion performance test. He achieved 10 points twice (loose jumping and aptitude for jumping in training). But he also achieved outstanding results for canter and rideability (rideability 8.0 twice). In showjumper classes Corrado progeny are almost unbeatable. Already in his first crops, he (Corrado I ) has 14 approved stallions. As a competition horse, Corrado I is always in the ribbons. In 1991, (as a 6 year old, Corrado I competed in the Federal Championship for Showjumpers in Germany. Corrado has won many Grand Prix and Nations Cup and World Cup competitions, e.g.; Aachen and Frankfurt, as well as being the German Champion in 1994. Corrado I has won over 500,000 DM in his career and is consistently mentioned as one of Cor de la Bryere's most important sons in addition to having the highest competition earnings of any Cor de la Bryere offspring. At the 1993 Elite Holsteiner sale at Neumunster, three 3 year olds by Corrado I sold for an average of $60,000 each. In Germany in 1997, Corrado I progeny at 2-4 years of age were selling for over 100,000 each. In August of 2001, German trainers express difficulty in obtaining these sought after bloodlines and spoke of talk that the breeding fees for Corrado I may be raised to 10,000 DM - approximately $5,000 U.S. dollars.
Corrado I 's sire is Cor de la Bryere (Selle Francais) imported to Holstein - a true living legend in Europe. He is on the eternal top10 sires list and is a true Sire Of All Disciplines - Top International Dressage, Eventing and Showjumping winners (with an incredible jumping bascule).Cor de la Bryere is featured in the Ausgewahlte Hengste Deutschlands -Gold Cover-2000 edition (Germany's Yearbook Of Stallions containing all breeds) in a spread of 20 pages. In this same year book on page 633, the stallion performance test results from 1998 at each of 13 sites in Germany list the "TOP 10" stallions at each site. At 11 out of these 13 sites, Cor de la Bryere blood is represented at least once and up to 4 times at one site marking the extraordinary influence Cor de la Bryere blood has in German Warmblood Breeding. See Cor de la Bryere's Famous Bascule.
Corrado I 's dam sire is Capitol I, (Holsteiner)another World Class Stallion, who is the sire or dam sire of many Top International Showjumpers. According to the breeding value rating by the FN, Capitol is one of the leading sires of Showjumpers in Germany today and is one of the few lines that carry the blood of Cottage Son xx.
Corrado… All its father
Currently the better son than Cor de the Bryère is without a doubt the Corrado gray that under the saddleback of the World-wide Champion in loads Franke Sloothaak has gained Large the Prizes of Goblet of the World of Aarhus ('96) Dortmund ('94 and '95), the Goblet of the Nations of Oberanven ('94), and conquering a third party place in the Goblet of the Nations of Aachen ('94) and a fifth place in the end of Goblet of the World of Geneva ('96), without to count the most numerous placings in Large International Prizes.
Currently Corrado has been withdrawn from the contests and carries out its activity of riproduttore near the center of the Holsteiner Verband di Elmshorn, and its box is goal of pilgrimages of gets passionate to you coming from from all the World.
Its sons are the pride of the Holsteiner breeding, and between they they enunciate: Calmaro, Corofino, Cosmos Star, Indorado, Coriana, Cher, Constanz Boy and Floristan, Cosima, Corrada, Cabrio.
But the qualities of Cor de the Brière are not stopped here, in its career it has produced also optimal subjects for the Dressage between which the unforgettable Corlandus, than under the saddleback of the French Amazon Margit Otto Crepin it has won very many between which the Championship of Europe of the 87, the medal of Silver to the Olympic Games di Seoul in the 88, and the Goblet of the World in the 89.
COR DE LA BRYERE (sire of CORRADO I) is respected as one of only a few elite stallions to produce such rideable horses for all Olympic disciplines. Add to this the level headedness of the CAPITOL line and it is no wonder that CORRAVALE has inherited such talent!
OPTION: CORIANO'S dam is the mother of the A level jumping mare VALSKA II, who is dam of the approved Holstein stallion COROFINO. Her sire LORD is rated as one of the best sires of international horses in the 90's. He was a very skillful showjumper himself and sired 48 approved stallions and over 30 international horses including LIVIUS, team Bronze winner at 1984 Olympics, FREESTYLE, winner of 1995 Aachen Grand Prix and many others. He is also ranked as 13th best Dressage sire by the WBFSH.
DAM LINE: DORETTA III is also impeccably bred, being by the great LANDLORD. He is considered, in Germany, to be the best stallion carrying on the blood of LANDGRAF I. The mare line is by the great LANDEGO; Rodrigo Pessoa's famous horse GANDINI was a cross of LANDLORD and LANDEGO too and won many World Cups. LANDLORD's sire is the world famous LANDGRAF I. He is in the worlds list of top ten jumping sires of International horses, and is probably one of the most proliferous sport horse generator in post-war history, with 113 progeny jumping at S-level and 26 in the WBCSH rankings, and this list grows every year. His daughters have also proved their value by producing some of the world's best horses Cor de la Bryère
Cor de la Bryère is the stallion that revolutionised jumping horse breeding. His is the name astute breeders like to see, especially on the mare line for ‘Cord’ tends to give great form over a jump. Cor de la Bryère is ranked 18th with 28 points earning progeny, but there are a staggering 20 own sons on the rankings: Calando I, II, IV; Caletto I, II; Calvados I, II; Calypso I, II, III; Cantares, Carneval, Carte d'Or, Casanova, Cavalier Royale, Cinzano, Constant, Contact, Corrado I. Described by breeders as a 'gift from heaven,' Cor de la Bryere has been especially successful producing jumping horses, as he passes on his incredible bascule (see here[3]), scope, and jumping technique. Corde de la Bryere also passed on his willingness and trainability. Cor de la Bryere has had an incredible impact on the Holsteiner breed, occurring in more than 70% of Holsteiner pedigrees, and is credited for improving the breed's jumping technique. He also had a huge impact on the Oldenburg breed. Cor de la Bryere stood at Siethwende from 1971 to 1984, Zangersheide 1985, Elmshorn 1986 to 1988, and Sollwittfeld from 1989 until his death in 2000. In his first season, he covered 70 mares at and four colts from his first crop were licensed.

Cor de la Bryere also passed on his willingness and trainability. Romedio Graf von Thun-Hohenstein described the stallion: 'The arching back, like a taut band of steel combined with the super elastic end gives limitless, but always expedient, springing capability to the natural dynamics of each effort. Add to that ease of riding, marvelous disposition, and a floating, highly balanced canter. These qualities are absolutely to the benefit of young horses, who will no longer have to pay with premature breakdowns caused by jumping and showing solely with a raw, crude jumping talent.'

His influence in France was limited, mainly due to his jumping. Although he was quick to fold his front legs, he did not have great power. When crossed with Holsteiner mares, which provided this power, his offspring were very successful in the show ring. However, the French mares did not have this power, and so they were usually a poor cross to Cor de la Bryere.
Cor de la Breyer was especially successful in breeding with certain mares. Tabelle (by Heisporn) produced 5 approved sons, including Calypso I and Calypso II. Furgund (by Colombo) bred with him 18 times, also producing five approved sons. Deka produced Caletto I, II and III, all by the stallion.

Capitol I is a real rarity in the ranks of Holsteiner stallions - a showjumping sire, whose name begins with C who is not related to Cor de la Bryère! Nor for that matter, is he related to that other pillar of Holsteiner breeding, Landgraf.
Indeed, there is quite some speculation as to whether his pedigree is an accurate reflection of reality!!
There is no doubt on his matrilineal line for he is the product of one of those legendary mares on which studs are built. In 1960, a wayward mare, Rappel was saved from the knackery by Rheder Thormählen, a breeder from a family which had lived on the Kollmaran marsh for 500 years, where they had been involved in the breeding, riding and selling of horses throughout that time. Rappel who was by Heinzelmann, had made herself unpopular by jumping out of paddocks, and was still jumping at the age of 23 when she won an elementary showjumping class! Herr Thormählen did not know it at the time but Rappel had an earlier foal, by the influential Arabian bred, Ramzes, who as Romanus had won the Grand Prix of Rome with Hans Günter Winkler.
Ten years later, Rappel presented Thormählen with another Ramzes foal, this time a filly, Vase - who went on to be champion mare of Holstein. Vase's full-brother, Roman topped the German showjumping standings for two years running with Hans-Gunter Winkler. Vase's daughter, Folia, by Maximus (himself an Advanced showjumper), foaled five stallions: Latus I and II (both by Landgraf), and then Capitol - who was by Capitano out of Retina (also by Ramzes) who had won the Hamburg Derby with Fritz Thiedemann in the saddle.
The query as to Capitol's antecedents has been raised in an article by Gabrielle Mohmann-Pochhammer (the editor of the German magazine, St Georg) in an article in Horse International (No 5, 2001)
According to Ms Pochhammer while it is recorded that Capitol's sire Capitano, is out of Retina, and by Corporal, this may not be the case. "On paper the bay Corporal was the sire of Capitano, but even when the stallion was still alive, doubts about the pedigree kept surfacing. This was because Capitano was a grey who dominantly passed on his colour, and is said to have produced only a few chestnut foals. But homozygous greys usually have two greys as parents. At the time in question, a young grey stallion, Vase's son, Grand Vicar, a brother of Folia, had been frolicking with Retina in the paddock. If the suspicions, which were never substantiated by appropriate genetic tests, are true, then Capitol would be the product of intensive in-breeding, and Ramzes blood would be in his genes via Retina and Vase, and a third time via his grand-sire. But we will never be sure about that…"
The yearling Capitol I was bought by the Holsteiner Verband, and he soon established himself as one of the great showjumping sires, represented internationally by jumpers such as Corso (ridden by the Swiss, Willi Meliger), JR Number One (exported to the United States), Caruso Rex, Calle, and most notably of recent times, Cento, a team gold medallist at the Sydney Games, and who missed out of an individual medal by just one rail!
Capitol I's full-brother, Capitol II was initially rejected by the licensing commission but was approved on the basis of his performance as a showjumper. In 1993 he presented his first crop of foals, and most of them were bay - which perhaps adds strength to the argument about his older brother's sire not being Capitano! If further proof was needed, Capitol II is not listed at all in the WBFSH standing for 2000/2001 (nor for that matter in the standings for the past 10 years), while his brother has pride of place - number one in the standings with 38 progeny gaining points!!!>
Top of the WBFSH standings is Capitol I, a grey Holsteiner with an interesting pedigree, in that it contains no Landgraf or Cor de la Bryère blood, but two crosses of the Anglo-Arab, Ramzes, once through Fritz Thiedemann’s jumping mare, Retina. His best performer is Cento (out of a Caletto II mare) ridden to team gold in Sydney by Otto Becker
ANCESTRY
G. Ramiro Z has become world famous world wide and is duly called the "Euro-stallion" of his day. Preferent Ramiro decends from the famous male linage combination Rainmond - Ramzes x - Rittersporn xx. The anglo arabian Ramzez represents one of the basic blood lines on which Holsteiner breeding has beeen founded. Ramzes gave a new dimension to sport horse breeding. Ramiro's dam is Valine, who aquired international fame as a show jumper by the name of Corrale under Lutz Gossing. She is a daughter of the reputable throughbred Cottage Son, who became famous through his son Consul. Ramiro's dam is frm linage 776 one of the most valueable Holstiener female blood lines going back to Achill and Edelbert.
PERFORMANCE
In 1969 Ramiro was the absolute top stallion of his performance year and was not only used for breeding but was successfully showjumped. he was ridden by Fritz Ligges and excelled in his puissance performances, up to 2.2 meters as well as in competition where speed was essential. Ramiro moved to the Netherlands to Studbook Zangersheide in 1979, and came to the netherlands 2 years later. on rhe basis of of his breeding efforts that had earned him worldwide fame, he was declared horse of the year at jumping Amsterdam in 1992.
PROGENY
G. Ramiro Z progeny can be describedwith one word: sublime. He supplied a large number of stallions approved in the Netherlands and abroad as well as an impressive series of sport horses. In the Netherlands his sons Almiro, Armstrong, Bernstein, Dageraad, Damiro, Elmero and Zeoleit were approved. His daughter the super mare Ratina Z is the dream of the show jumping world, winning both gold and silver at the Barcelona Olympics and, under her new rider Ludger Beerbaum, claiming the Volvo World Cup of 1993.
However his products increasingly distinguish themselves in dressage as well. The Horse Breeding Testing Station Association has gratefully used the sperm quality and high fertility of G. Ramiro Z, which alllowed this association to play a prominent role in the development of artificial insemination of horses in this day and age.
