Elcaro was one of the Leading Grand Prix Dressage Horses in the Netherlands.
Elcaro came to the fore as one of the best of his year during the 1989 performance test. His foals have inherited striking fronts together with a notable good use of the hind legs. Elcaro further distinguished himself by his outstanding trot. Elcaro's dam, Ritacara (by Luckyboy), is of the illustrious Cara-lineage, which has its roots in the north of the Netherlands. In addition, Elcaro's sire, Zeoliet, is by the well known G Ramiro Z. Ability, longlife and soundness are the trademarks of these lineages.
The following information on Abgar, Ramiro, Pion and Darwin is taken from the USA Equestrian web site (formerly ahsa.org):
"It is interesting to note the heavy influence of the Thoroughbred stallion Abgar in this small population of dressage sires. The 1997 leader Volckmar is an Agbar son, while above-mentioned Zeoliet is the product of an Abgar daughter bred to Ramiro. (This same formula is found in the pedigree of Rolando, who is the sire of Jane Clark's Rainier, Robert Dover's mount in Sydney.) In addition, the 1999 champion stallion, Darwin, is out of a daughter of Pion, an Abgar son. Abgar is probably best known in this country as a source of jumpers. Both of the show jumping stallions, V.I.P. (Joost/Abgar xx) and Ommen (Abgar xx/Joost) are examples. Neither is Abgar's sire, Abernant, a stranger to international sport. Abernant himself produced more than one international show jumping powerhouse, the most notable being Aberali."
Elcaro goes its own way. With almost 250 descendants that come out in the dressage-sport. A dressage index, that self for years above the 150 points moves, and a pedigree that beautiful connection gives on other dressage far verse, is he for years an exceptional functional fokhengst. Zeoliet (keur)
Zeoliet is by the very modern breeding stallion Ramiro, who has earned the tag Euro-stallion. Ramiro is the sire of several approved stallions in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands as well as the sire of internationally known horses such as: Donau, Ramzes, Almox Rosella, Rinnetou Z, Rolex, Zamira and Ratina Z.
Zoeliet's dam, Sargab, has been declared "preferent" at the age of 10, which made her the youngest "prestatie" mare in the Netherlands. Sargab has also produced the Z-level dressage horses Wirbeleau and Bauxiet. The dam's sire is the thoroughbred Abgar, one of the most influential Dutch sporthorse producers (Ommen, Jabgar, Treffer and Valeur). Tenth place in the international breeding index underlines the enormous importance of Abgar in Dutch breeding at the stallion test in Ermelo, Zeoliet earned a 9.2 for dressage, a 9 for jumping under saddle, and a 9.5 for free jumping. Zeoliet himself competed internationally at ZZ level dressage with Roger Schulkens. Zeoliet has been consistently high in the international index for producing both dressage horses and jumpers.
. Furthermore, on the dam's side we find the mare A.Gonnie (by Nimrod) who descends from a strong Groninger line including Majesteit and Hendrik.
In 1995 Zeoliet was 12th place at the World Breeding Ranking for Showjumping sires.

Zeoliet Passed Away
The legendary KWPN stallion Zeoliet has passed away at the age of 20. Residing at Shooting Star Farm in Spofford, NH, USA, Zeoliet was by Ramiro out of the Keur preferent mare Sargab (Abgar xx x Nimrod). The stallion was bred by Eykenboom who still owned him together with the Dutch stallion station Nijhof in Geesteren, The Netherlands.
In 1984 Zeoliet was amongst the best stallion in the stallion performance test and he passed on his quality to his descendants. He received 9,2 for his dressage test and 9 and 9,5 for the jumping parts. Zeoliet competed in the Stallion Competition Circuit under Henk van den Broek and performed 4th level dressage with Roger Schulkens.
Zeoliet has two approved sons from his first breeding season, Elcaro and Eusebio. The dark bay was especially gifted as show jumping sire. He has sired several Grand Prix show jumpers like Escudo, Supercruise, Jumbo and Elando. Nevertheless, he also produced a large lot of top level dressage horses of which Dotato, Neoliet, Leoliet and Favoriet are renowned horses. The last two years of his life, Zeoliet was up for stud in the U.S. at Scot Tolman's Shooting Star Farm. There is still frozen semen available in the Netherlands.
G Ramiro Z
17.1 HH BAY HOLSTEINER
ANCESTRY
G. Ramiro Z has become world famous world wide and is duly called the "Euro-stallion" of his day. Preferent Ramiro decends from the famous male linage combination Rainmond - Ramzes x - Rittersporn xx. The anglo arabian Ramzez represents one of the basic blood lines on which Holsteiner breeding has beeen founded. Ramzes gave a new dimension to sport horse breeding. Ramiro's dam is Valine, who aquired international fame as a show jumper by the name of Corrale under Lutz Gossing. She is a daughter of the reputable throughbred Cottage Son, who became famous through his son Consul. Ramiro's dam is frm linage 776 one of the most valueable Holstiener female blood lines going back to Achill and Edelbert.
PERFORMANCE
In 1969 Ramiro was the absolute top stallion of his performance year and was not only used for breeding but was successfully showjumped. he was ridden by Fritz Ligges and excelled in his puissance performances, up to 2.2 meters as well as in competition where speed was essential. Ramiro moved to the Netherlands to Studbook Zangersheide in 1979, and came to the netherlands 2 years later. on rhe basis of of his breeding efforts that had earned him worldwide fame, he was declared horse of the year at jumping Amsterdam in 1992.
PROGENY
G. Ramiro Z progeny can be describedwith one word: sublime. He supplied a large number of stallions approved in the Netherlands and abroad as well as an impressive series of sport horses. In the Netherlands his sons Almiro, Armstrong, Bernstein, Dageraad, Damiro, Elmero and Zeoleit were approved. His daughter the super mare Ratina Z is the dream of the show jumping world, winning both gold and silver at the Barcelona Olympics and, under her new rider Ludger Beerbaum, claiming the Volvo World Cup of 1993.
However his products increasingly distinguish themselves in dressage as well. The Horse Breeding Testing Station Association has gratefully used the sperm quality and high fertility of G. Ramiro Z, which alllowed this association to play a prominent role in the development of artificial insemination of horses in this day and age.
Ico Sun
Ico Sun (nee Daz with John Whitacker) is one of the few coloured stallions who competed showjumping, was showjumped in UK and abroad at national level in Holland. Ico Sun now stands at stud in the Netherlands.
We have recentley found out from Clare Whitaker that "they bought him as a 2yr old & sold him at 5 years. He never competed with us but he jumped well at home, he was sold to Holland to Hans Dings". We have located Hans Dings and sent him an email asking if he has any further details of his competion record, as soon as I can get any further info I will update our site.
Ico - The Jumping Sire
Ico Sun's sire Ico, is an International showjumper known as the jumping sire, Jumping index 108 (well above average). He bred Nekoma who jumped in the Achen Grand Prix at just 6 years of age!
Ico - Born 10th May 1967, measuring 1m63 (16 hands) with 20.5cm bone (8¼") bred in Holland by SJ Hulstoff and P Oversett. From 1970 to 1973 he covered maresin Holland and was then exported to Hessen in Germany. Due to insufficient points he passed but was unplaced in his performance test due to his difficult and 'buzzy' character. Jumping index 108 (well above average).
Nekoma has sadlly passed away
- (Ico's Progeny)
5.09.06
Nekoma probably the most successful coloured stallion of all time sadly has passed away. He was competed by Jürgen Kenn at international level showjumping and Nekoma was said to be a great sportsman and a trusted friend. He was a great Puissance specialist regularly clearing 2.30 metres. At 6 years of age he took part in the grand prix at Aachen and at 7 he was one of the 3 most successful German show jumping horses of his age group. He is said to pass on an impressive natural jump, presence and ability. His lifetime winnings exceed 30,000. Although he was never really used in his younger days, the horses he has produced speak for themselves, there are several Nekoma progency competing at high levels around Europe. We feel it is a sad loss of such a wonderful horse. Our thoughts are with his owners.
Nekoma
Ico's Sire - Marco Polo
The Trakehner bred in Germany in mid 1960's, not typically Trakehner in type as a little plain in the head and long in the back, by the Thoroughbred Poet, from whom he inherited most of his type. An outstanding sire of showjumping horses and probably best remembered through Marius. Many claims have been made about the connection with Milton, but an equal number put forward a theory that Milton's sire was in fact a Connemara pony acting as a teaser to Marius at the time, therefore no concrete documented or scientifically proven evidence exists. Talent: Jumping.
Ico's dam - Sonja by Sinaeda
Sinaeda was a Groeningen stallion who sired 14 graded sons. However, because the Dutch breeders decided his type was far too old-fashioned, his bloodline only exists through his daughters, many of which produced outstanding offspring, especially when covered by Marco Polo. Talent: Jumping.
Ico's influence across the generations:
In 1996 the FN (equivalent to BHD in UK) records 54 Ico offspring, coloured and plain, winning affiliated showjumping, and Ideal de Luze winning affiliated dressage. Best known for: NEKOMA (Ico x Harmonie by Edelmann XX). The Puissance specialist ridden by Jürgen Kenn internationally. Stood in Germany, now exported to Austria. Also IRMA LA DOUCE (Ico x Lutzow x Der Löwe XX) represented Germany in the early '90's with rider Thilo Krapf.
